The Court of Appeals requires lawyers licensed in Maryland to report on both their pro bono activities and their interest on Lawyer Trust Account (IOLTA) annually. Rule 19-306 of the Rules of Professional Conduct defines pro bono service and includes an annual aspirational goal of 50 hours of service for each lawyer in the full-time.
Maryland rules permit a lawyer to make a financial contribution to a legal services organization in lieu of pro bono services.
Lawyers should consider a contribution to MCVRC in addition to or as an alternative to providing pro bono legal assistance.
